Here's what just came off the easel, inspired from the recent trip Dave and I made to Taos. I was interested in portraying the peacefulness of late afternoon near the Pueblo Indian Reservation in Taos. I have used glazes, thin layers of transparent paint, to achieve the interesting textures in the grassy field. The cows are just distinctive shapes, more than exact portraits of cows. I have tried to make the mountains look as if they are in the distance by eliminating detail and removing the yellows and greens. Yellow is the first color to disappear when things are viewed at a distance.
It's been three years since I had the old commercial location on University Blvd with a big picture window. I especially miss the children from the elementary school across the street, their noses pressed against the glass, giving me a "thumbs up" on the current painting on my easel. So, I am giving you a peak at what's going on in my new studio. I hope you will come visit me in person sometime soon.
